Devotion

Let me ask you, brothers and sisters, where does our devotion lie?

First let’s pose this question to the young people:

Young people, What is it that you devote your time doing while you are out with your friends? Or alone with some free time on your hands? As the world around you tries to draw your devotion away from Christ, do you stay firm to your Christian values or do you compromise what you know is right?

Wives, where does your devotion lie? Are you devoted to your husband through reverence as his faithful helpmeet? Are you devoted to the nurturing and the care of the children and the home? Oh how the family is blessed by a godly mama.

Men, where does our devotion lie? Are we devoted to our families by taking on the responsibility of spiritual leadership? Brothers, are we the pastors of our homes?!? If our families get more spiritual teaching at church than in our homes… we have failed our wives and children. Let us take the reigns of Spiritual headship and show our families that we are devoted to serve the living God!

To everyone I ask the question again…Where does our devotion lie? Another way to ask is “What is our treasure?”

Luke 12:34 says: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

We will devote our lives to that which we treasure most. If it is our careers we treasure…it receives our devotion. If it is money…it receives our devotion. If it is this world…it will receive our devotion. Before I accepted Jesus Christ, my treasure could be found in television, movies, and secular music. Those things were my treasure. Oh I cringe to think of how much time I wasted devoting myself to the things of this world. If you would have asked me, I could sing hundreds of secular songs WORD for WORD… but ask me to quote just one verse of scripture…sadly I could only stumble through trying to quote Psalms 23. I knew the movies and characters of the top stars of Hollywood, but could only tell you about a couple people spoken of in Gods word. This world was my treasure… it was my devotion! So often we can be caught up in the things of this world that we can forget that the real treasure to be gotten is that of unsaved souls for Christs kingdom!

Matt. 6:24 says No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and money.”

Satan wants so much that we would take our time and energy and direct it away from the Lord, our families, and each other and devote our selves to the sins of this world and call it our master. We must always cast our devotion onto Christ Jesus. After all, he gave us the greatest example of devotion we could ever find.

Matthew 27:36 Sitting down, they kept watch over Him there. And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left. And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, “You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

Even the robbers who were crucified with Him reviled Him with the same thing. He saved others…himself he cannot save.” They said. When he was in the garden praying before he was betrayed…Why didn’t he run! When his hands and feet were being pierced why didn’t he come down. Imagine now, friends, the pain of seeing those souls he so longed to save…blaspheme him as he hung from that cross in agony….Why didn’t he save himself?

Romans 5:8 God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!

They said “COME DOWN FROM THE CROSS, AND WE WILL BELIEVE YOU!” I say Thank you Jesus for staying on that cross and because you didn’t come down “I BELIEVE YOU!!!!”
